卡萝塔·佩蕾丝围绕“技术-经济范式”展开的理论将金融资本与生产资本的关系融入技术创新的长波理论视角中,提出了发展巨潮中金融资本周期性运动的辩证性作用与危机的二重性,是新熊彼特学派长波理论的出色模型。然而,在与马克思主义长波理论的比较中,佩蕾丝的理论仍然存在两个方面的缺陷,其一是忽略了金融资本的历史性,其二是忽略了阶级关系的主观因素对技术革命的影响。从2007～2008年美国金融危机的分析中可以看到,佩蕾丝所谓的金融资本与生产资本的协同阶段很可能很难达到,其原因是世界货币体系与政治力量庇护下的金融资本很难在危机中崩溃。
