During the College of Lake Countys semester abroad in China for spring 2019， students will experience diverse landscapes （风景）， a mild climate and Yunnan University in the countrys southwestern region. Experiencing Chinese culture， making new friends and earning 12 or more college credits in the College of Lake Countys semester abroad in Kunming， China will be included in the journey from Feb. 20 to June 23， 2019. The opportunity is offered at a special rate to the first 20 students to apply and be accepted into the program.
“Students will take classes at Yunnan University， one of the largest and most famous universities in China，” said Liliana Ware， CLC academic operations manager. Required courses include History of Chinese Culture and Society and Introduction to East Asian Civilization， available in English. Elective courses include Chinese Language and two other courses—International Relations and American National Politics.
“Kunming is called ‘the City of Eternal Spring because it has a warmer and much milder climate than most of the other Chinese cities，” Liliana Ware said. “Students live in international housing on the beautiful university campus close to many cultural sites and attractions. There are also good and affordable places to eat near the campus. Housing is near old-fashioned neighborhoods as well as modern shopping areas， and students will be accompanied by a CLC member.”
One CLC graduate who found the trip rewarding is Bernard Kondenar， an Antioch resident. He spent the fall semester 2017 in China before graduating in May with an A.A.S. in sustainable（可持续的） agriculture and gardening production in addition to an Associate in Arts degree.
“I visited the tombs and palaces of the ancient emperors， bathed in the hot springs of grand mountains and even learned to recite a little Chinese poetry，” said Bernard Kondenar， who plans to transfer to Lake Forest College in the fall and major in environmental science. “I am truly grateful to CLC for making this most gratifying （令人满意的） and enriching experience possible.”
