Objective To observe the changes of serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in children with Kawasaki disease and evaluate its role in the pathogenesis of Kawasaki disease (KD). Methods Serum VEGF levels in 33 children with KD before and after treatment were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and no fever and fever control group were set up. Peripheral blood routine, CRP and serum albumin were also detected. Results The serum levels of VEGF in KD group were significantly higher than those in control group before and after treatment; those with hypoalbuminemia were higher than those with normal serum albumin; there was no significant difference between CAL group and NCAL group. KD acute phase VEGF value and neutrophil, CRP was positively correlated. Conclusion VEGF participates in the pathophysiological process of KD and may be a detrimental mechanism in the early stage of disease.
