Cultural default refers to the omission of the relevant cultural background that the author shared with both readers when communicating with readers of his intention. In recent years, “cultural default ” has attracted more and more scholars’ attention at home and abroad. Foreign scholars mainly analyze it from the perspectives of cognitive psychology and artificial intelligence. Domestic scholars pay more attention to the influence of cultural default on translation. Due to its distinctive cultural characteristics, its translation will have a direct impact on the smoothness of its communication. Therefore, it is of crucial importance to deal with the cultural default in literary translation. Lin Yutang, as a self-translator, also adopted different translation strategies for cultural defaults in his own work. For example, he adopted the translation strategy of deleting, naturalizing and compensating in the “Beggar in London” Cultural defaults have been compensated.
