The UN Food and Agriculture Organization declared 1985 the International Year of Forests. This announcement has been positively responded by many countries because it is a major event that concerns the preservation of a better living environment for all mankind. The world’s forests are facing a drastic reduction. Without prompt and effective measures to stop deforestation and afforestation, the global ecological balance will inevitably become uncontrollable and threaten human life and survival. For my country, the situation is equally serious. We must take effective measures to stop the destruction of forests and vigorously plant trees. Forests are the mainstay of terrestrial ecosystems.
