Dear friends, do you like ball games? If you do, you must have heard of Li Na. She is a Chinese professional tennis player. She became the first Asian player to win a Grand Slam Singles title (大满贯赛事单打冠军) at the French Open Tennis Tournament(法国网球公开赛) on June 4, 2011. With the victory, Li will reach No. 4 in the world. She made a new history in tennis. Everyone in China was very excited. We were proud of her.
Li Na is 29 years old now. She began to learn tennis at the age of six. She is a clever, confident and hard-working girl. She practices tennis very hard. Her father died when she was 14. Li Na is also a helpful and warm-hearted girl. She often donates her money to people in disaster areas (灾区) and helps disabled children.
2011 is Li Na’s successful year. Li defeated last year’s women’s French Open winner, Italy’s Francesca Schiavone(意大利老将斯齐亚沃尼). Over 166 million audience watched the match on China Central Television (CCTV) that day.
When the reporter asked, “What is your next plan?” She answered, “If you don’t go forward, you will go backward. I will try my best in every game. If I have a chance, I will help Chinese young players.” She added, “I hope after the young people in China looked at my match today, they will want to do even better than me in the future.”
