熟语是语言的精华，承载着大量文化信息。人类文化的相通之处使英汉两种语言里有很近似的熟语；而民族文化间的差异则更明显地通过熟语表现出来。从历吏背景、文化传统、生活环境及风俗、宗教信仰等方面对英汉熟语文化涵义上的差异的比较，证明正是两个民族文化的不同制约着英汉熟语的产生及其意义的不同，所以通过熟语研究文化差异，是一条有效途径。
Sayings is the essence of language, carrying a large amount of cultural information. The interlinkages of human culture have similar idioms in English and Chinese, while the differences between national cultures are more clearly expressed in idioms. Comparing the cultural meanings of the English and Chinese idioms from the experience of historiographers, cultural traditions, living environment and customs, religious beliefs and other aspects, it is proved that the differences between the two national cultures restrict the emergence of English and Chinese idioms and their different meanings Studying cultural differences through idioms is an effective way.
