In April 2014, 36 mu of ancient jujube garden in Nihegou Village, Jiaxian County, Shaanxi Province, was listed as an important agricultural cultural heritage by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). In November of the same year, the remote mountain village in northern Shaanxi was included in the directory of protection of traditional Chinese villages. However, like most of the villages in China, the natural landscape and human history here are not transformed into resources for village development. The village belonging to Lvliang distressed area has 248 households with 813 people and 290 laborers. Of the 158 villagers in the perennial year, 111 are over-aged. They are the main force in managing 1450 mu of cultivated land to protect the jujube forest.
