产自黔西南法郎组瓦窑段一长鳍型鱼龙类新属种———周氏黔鱼龙 (Qianichthyosauruszhoui) .正型标本为一右侧观的完整个体 ,最主要的特征是特大的圆形眼眶、极短的颞部和异常明显的吻 ,以及密集排列的锥状牙齿 .头后骨骼的描述主要根据副模标本 .该标本清楚地显示了周氏黔鱼龙的背段脊柱极度隆起 ,而尾部的下弯程度介于三叠纪与侏罗纪属种之间 ,荐前椎数目不少于 42 .椎体结构表明至少与荐前椎相连的肋骨为双头 .特别值得注意的是 ,周氏黔鱼龙后肢上的股骨、胫骨和腓骨分别略强壮于前肢上的相应结构 ,这些长骨的形状与三叠纪的鱼龙类更为接近 ,仍然比较狭长 ,但绝大多数指 (趾 )骨已变为圆形或四角钝圆的四边形 .周氏黔鱼龙的四肢骨骼在大小比例及形态上都与三叠纪Shastasauridae的成员相似 ,但二者的头骨和脊柱又有较明显的区别 .周氏黔鱼龙综合了三叠纪和侏罗纪鱼龙的一些性状 ,其科级地位尚难以确定
