Plus Medical Journal Volume 16, Number 10 (1980) SAN DIEGO: The more people who smoke, the more the HDL declines. This smoking-related study was sponsored by Bethesda’s National Institutes of Health and organized for $ 108 million in research funded by 10 medical centers in the United States and Canada. Epidemiological studies in the Lipid Institute (LRS) suggest that smokers’ HDL cholesterol is significantly reduced compared to their matched counterparts, while smokers have lower HDL cholesterol levels than those who smoke less. In the annual meeting of the American Society of Cardiology cardiovascular cardiovascular epidemiology, has presented this information.
