It is estimated that there are currently 15,000 exhibitions agents in China for international fairs. In the superfast process of commercialization, there occur many problems, including inconsistent service standards and vicious competition. However, there is no strict regulation about this from governmental agencies or professional associations in the exhibition industry. Some small companies are proving a threat to bigger companies via lower price resulted from a low-cost operation. Zhang has been working in the exhibition industry for over ten years, and now as a veteran she expressed her disappointment about such phenomenon, but on the whole, she is gratitude about the rich experience and abundant income that the industry has brought her.
She thinks that the development of the exhibition industry reflect the development of the general economic situation of China today, which is developing rapidly but the regulation is weak. Still, Zhang is positive about the future of the industry, and says that she will face the reality in calm and seize new opportunities, and in reaching the company’s goal, set a good example for the industry.
In the past years, Zhang has been made customer satisfaction the highest standard, and seeks to reach long-term cooperation relationship with customers. Zhang and her team reach consensus in that lasting acknowledgment for the international exhibitions offered are very important, she also calls for professional media to expose vicious competition and acclaim high service standards.
In doing business, Zhang strictly limits her goals, and faces various challenges with a simple attitude.“I am ambitious and have so many ideas, but I am persistent about my goals, so I will not be too ambitious about them. I consider carefully what I would like to achieve in the long term, and then it would be clear what I can do right now. Usually, my next goal is firmly based on my current foundation.” Taking recent years as an example, many Chinese companies are exploring new markets overseas, and Zhang and her companies carefully look for exhibition projects under the same subject industry, which creates business opportunities for the company and also helps Chinese export companies better locate target markets.
Another example also illustrates how Zhang respecting the principle in the process of commercialization and seizing new opportunities. In the past, international exhibition organizers tended to sign Exclusive Agency Agreement with Chinese exhibition agents. However, this trend has now declined considerably. In 2009, Beijing Top Fairs International signed an exclusive agency agreement with Penn Well Group in the US. Now, the company is only one of the Penn Well partners in China. Zhang expressed that she is not upset about this, and that in return, domestic agents are also locating good exhibition organizers to cooperate with.
