Bird in the Room is an important collection of short stories by the famous Canadian writer Margaret Lawrence. From the perspective of Vanessa MacLeod, she describes her story of the decade from the age of 10 - 20 years, a story of how the hero came out of family history, the Great Depression and the shackles of war . Traditional reviews of Margaret Lawrence’s work tend to focus on the local flavor and culture. In fact, during the protests against the Great Depression and the “Great Depression”, all the characters have been constantly struggling with their dreams in the real world and have created a strong tragedy. This article analyzes the tragic consciousness in the novels of Margaret with the forth story of “the bird in the room” and the sixth story “horse in the darkness”.
