This article takes his representative novel “The Bubble of Years”, the short story “Ant” and his most famous anti-war poetry “Deserter” as an example to discuss the cruelty and absurdity of his war. Von wrote the war with surrealism, black humor, symbolism and realistic writing techniques. His witty humor and ironic irony expressed the antiwar ideology that his work not only has unique artistic charm, but also has far-reaching social meaning .
