By comparing the contribution patterns of elderly people in China and the United States to family members, friends or neighbors and their related factors, it is found that both the Chinese and American respondents contribute more to their families than to their friends and neighbors. Older men in China and the United States provide more help to their families than their females and less affective support for their friends than females. The results of multivariate regression analysis showed that the differences in the contribution patterns of elderly people between China and the United States may be related to differences in cultural values, socio-economic structure, religious connections and related opportunities for completing contribution activities.
