The world is contemplating the future of Russia with anxieties as it did at the turn of the century in the late twentieth century. It is impossible for this country with vast territory, huge natural and manpower resources and a huge military force not to have an impact on the future of the entire world. It is for this reason that the issue of the historical destiny of Russia, that is, how to do it to mean perishing and how to do what it means to be saved, has repeatedly been the object of intense debate in the social and political turmoil. The heated debate over how to find a suitable road to Russia is still going on in Russia today. Participants and bystanders of these debates could not help but compare the present with the first half of this century and in the course of their arguments quoted works written by Russian expatriates over many years.
