while是个简单的单词，但其用法却很灵活．在高考题中经常出现。它可以作名词和连词。本文浅析一下它的用法．
一、用作名词：一会儿，一段时间
rest a while休息一会儿
a short while ago方才，刚才。
in a little while没一会儿，须臾之间
二、用作连词：
A.（表对比）而，然而。
He is a worker while I am a doctor.
B.(引导让步状语从句)虽然，尽管。
While he loves his children,he is very strict with them..
C.(引导时间状语从句)当…….时候，在…….期间。从句中谓语动词必须是延续性的。
Tom fell asleep while he was doing his homework.
will look after your cat while you are away.
D（引导原因状语从句）既然
Why did you ask the teacher while you had known the answer?
While you have got such a good chance,you shouldn’t miss it
E(引导条件状语从句)只要
There will be life while there is water and air .
