Objective To explore the application of the fixation method to prevent the neonatal skin injury when the neonatal continues to place the gastric tube. Methods Forty-eight children with gastrointestinal decompression admitted to neonatology department of our hospital from March to July in 2015 were selected as experimental group and divided into experimental group and control group, with 24 cases in each group. During the continuous gastric tube indwelling, the test group was covered with 3M elastic tape and covered with hydrophilic applicator protection at the fixed skin around the gastric tube. The applicator should be replaced at any time if the applicator was detached or non-sticky. The control group only performed 3M elastic tape fixed. Results The incidence of skin injury in the test tube group was significantly lower than that in the control group, with significant difference (P <0.05). Conclusion The use of 3M elastic tape to fix the skin of neonates with gastric tube retention while increasing hydrophilicity is an effective method to prevent skin damage at the site of gastric tube fixation.
