Two shallow ice cores were taken from Qogir Glacier on the northern slope of Mt.Qogir(K2),Karakoram,during the autumn of 1986.Core A(9.9 m deep)was drilled at 4440 m in the lower ablation zone.Core B(8.5 m deep)was drilled at 5320 m in the seasonal superimposed ice zone at the uppermost limit of the ablation zone.Samples from the ice cores were collected and analyzed forδD,δ~(18)O,degree of mineralization and pH.This paper describes the stratigraphy and the geochemical characteristics of the ice cores.In addition,the relationship betweenδD andδ~(18)Q values is discussed.
