Thanks to years of seeing DIY stop-motion[单格拍制] shorts made from Legos all over the Internet, it’s been hard for me to imagine Legos being the center of a big Hollywood film. But Warner Bros. has won me over with their latest trailer[预告片] for The Lego Movie. Not only does the trailer show a lot of imagination, it’s also got a pretty on point sense of humor.
Directed by Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs helmers[电影导演] Phil Lord and Chris Miller, The Lego Movie centers on an ordinary everyman minifigure[迷你人型公仔] named Emmet. As you can see from the trailer, Emmet is a simple guy who takes pleasure in the way everything in his life—from overpriced coffee to the daily traffic—just works out perfectly. But when a work place accident thrusts[强行推进] him into a dark and dangerous part of the city he thought he knew so well, he discovers his destiny[命运] might be that of The Special, a savior MasterBuilder.
With help from a wide cast of colorful characters that include a robot-beating Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, a wise wizard, an angry cop, and a sassy[粗鲁的] badass[(美俚)到坏蛋] called WyldStyle, Emmet will have to stop the evil President Business, who loves tacos[玉米卷] almost as much as being tyrant[暴君].
It’s easy to be cynical[愤世嫉俗的] about a movie whose motivation[动机] is to sell toys to children worldwide. But the end game of every Hollywood movie is to make money, right? Still, as just about every Pixar movie and quite a few DreamWorks adventures have proven, you can make a movie to sell cute monsters or friendly cars to kids and still make the stories entertaining. It looks like that’s a mission that Lord and Miller are taking on. Not only have they created an action-packed animation style that plays on the Lego brand, but they clearly have woven[交织] in the kind of enthusiastic[热情的] energy and goofy[愚笨的] humor that made Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs a hit. Top that off with a voice cast that is not only audibly[可听见地] charming but also likely to appeal to[有吸引力] grown-ups, and you’ve got an animated adventure that could well be worth the price of admission[入场费]…not to mention the inspiration to buy more Lego playsets immediately.
