本文基于Halliday和Hassan的语篇衔接理论,采用语言学中的统计方法和定量分析方法,对60篇中学生英语作文中的衔接手段进行比较分析,目的是探究中国中学生英语写作中衔接手段的一般特征,衔接手段与作文质量的相关性以及衔接手段对作文质量的预测能力。研究结果显示:中学生英语写作中能够使用多种衔接手段;文中衔接手段总数与作文质量成正相关,但相关性较弱;同义词衔接和人称照应对作文质量有较好的预测能力。
Based on the discourse cohesion theory of Halliday and Hassan, this paper uses the statistical method and quantitative analysis method in linguistics to analyze and compare the cohesion of 60 middle school students in English essay. The purpose of this paper is to explore the general characteristics of Chinese middle school students’ cohesive means in English writing , Cohesion and the quality of the essay as well as the cohesive means of predicting the quality of essay. The results show that there are many means of cohesion in high school students’English writing. The total number of means of cohesion is positively correlated with the quality of the essay, but the correlation is weak. Synonym cohesion and person-name should have a good ability of predicting the composition quality.
