The word palace has different meanings in different parts of the world. A palace can be a magnificent home, or a king, governor or government officials of the Executive Council Hall. Traditionally, some of the emperors' palaces contain defensive characteristics that are typically built on castles, such as a moat and some guardhouse. These defenses were built to protect the wealthy and powerful palace masters, as well as protect their vital documents and invaluable heirlooms. In today's society, many ancient palaces have been transformed into public buildings and museums, so that everyone can enjoy the luxury of decoration and architecture.
