Objective To investigate the relationship between refractive errors and trace elements in children. Methods By refractive screening and trace element determination, 192 cases of ametropic children and 192 normal controls were selected for comparative study. Results The levels of blood zinc, blood copper, blood calcium and blood iron in children with ametropia were significantly lower than those in normal control group, the difference was statistically significant; the contents of blood zinc and blood iron in Han children were significantly higher than those in Victoria and Kazakhstan Ethnic children, the difference was statistically significant. Conclusion Trace elements, especially zinc, copper, calcium and iron content have a certain relationship with the occurrence of refractive errors in children.
