O’Connor, a southern writer in the twentieth century in the United States, left a number of short stories and two novels for later generations in her short creative career. All of these works reveal the weaknesses of human nature and record the explorations made by writers to save human beings in spiritual wilderness. O’Connor pays close attention to the lives of people in the United States and in the South, and in particular the beliefs of some people with mental or physical anomalies. These characters have become the protagonists in her works and are the medium through which she makes her own thinking about the present situation of mankind. The short story “Good Man Hard to Find” is one of the best works that can represent the author’s writing theme and writing style. The novel presents the readers with the images of grandmothers and “out of date” protagonists who are in mental distress through simple character dialogues. Through detailed textual analysis, we can find out from the grandmothers: the old cats in the cold world, the “out of dateness”: the abandoned children under the gloomy sky and the beacon of the spiritual ocean: revealing that only spiritual power can solve the problem of rational logic Spiritual difficulties that can not be resolved by all.
