马曰琯、马曰璐昆仲为雍乾隆年间扬州著名徽籍盐商。兄,马曰琯(1688～1755),字秋玉,号嶰谷、沙河逸老。弟,马曰璐(1695～1769后),字佩兮,号半查、半槎、南斋。马氏兄弟互为师友,研习经史文集,旁逮金石字画,俱以诗名。又筑小玲珑山馆,丰富藏书,礼遇寒士,多善举义行,与当时寓扬名流厉鹗、杭世骏、全祖望、汪士慎、闽农、陈章、金农等深交,位居扬州文化中心,被时人敬称“扬州二马”。
