The 50th anniversary of the Institute of History of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences provides an opportunity to review the history of Ming history in its development worldwide. This article will focus on the history of the study of the Ming Dynasty in the United States in the course of the past half century. This process of development has much to do with how Americans know the world and how they know their place in the world. In the twentieth century, American awareness has gone through changes that emphasize the importance of Western Europe to emphasize global connections. At the beginning of this century, the study of Ming Dynasty did not occupy a place in the academic field. By the end of the century, the Ming Dynasty not only became an academic field attracting attention, but also became an important content in the course of the construction of the history of the world’s history in the United States. From a broader perspective, this process of development can be divided into three stages based on historical events: after World War I, after World War II and after the Cold War. This includes many aspects, from the teaching of the history classes of the American primary, secondary and primary school students to the cosmopolitanism and internationalism in the wider sense discussed by academics and academics. This article begins with the very beginning of the twentieth century, when serious academic research in China was not yet apparent in the United States.
