Objective To explore the distributional characteristics of high school students’ foreign language anxiety and its impact on foreign language achievement. Methods A total of 117 high school students were investigated with Foreign Language Class Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) and EFT (Embedded Graphic Test). Results Foreign language anxiety of boys was significantly higher than that of girls. There was no significant difference in foreign language anxiety among liberal arts high school students. Foreign language anxiety of field independent high school students was significantly higher than that of field dependents. Foreign language anxiety was negatively correlated with foreign language performance (P <0.01). Conclusion The high level of anxiety in field independent senior high school students will hinder their foreign language learning and foreign language teaching should be targeted.
