Accelerating the construction of greenery and improving the urban ecological environment is an inevitable requirement of Shanghai’s economic development and the move to the goal of “one leading and three centers.” Due to the restrictions on Shanghai’s urban layout, coupled with large-scale urban construction, the original green area of urban areas has been continuously eroded and invaded. In recent years, per capita green space and green coverage in Shanghai have been at a low level. By the end of 1993, the green coverage rate in Shanghai was only 13.5%, and the per capita public green space in the urban area was 1.15 square meters. This not only greatly lags behind the UN’s target of occupying 50 square meters of public green space in the world’s cities.
