当今全世界商业饲料生产徘徊不前,而宠物食品生产都稳步增长。 目前,宠物全价营养食品的最经济方式是袋装挤压制品,商业饲料的利润仅为2％～3％,而宠物食品的利润却高出4～5倍。因此每年有相当数量的饲料公司转向兼营宠物食品。 为发展宠物食品生产,全世界多家宠物食品生产厂家及供应商,参加了1993年5月3日至5日在芝加哥召开的第一届宠物食品科学研讨会,探讨开发各类宠物营养食品及其生产销售和有关法规等问题。
