China Film Group Corporation, aka CFGC, announced major personnel changes recently. Han Sanping, who has been hailed as one of the most influential people of China’s film making industry, will no longer serve as the Chairman of CFGC and China Film Co., Ltd. La Peikang and Jiao Hong will take over his two positions respectively.
60-year-old Han Sanping explained earlier to the public that he decided to step down simply because he is “too old for the job”.
According to CFGC insiders, “Mr. Han will still work at CFGC as a director”. As to his successor La Peikang and Jiao Hong, insiders say the appointment announcement has already been circulated in China’s broadcasting, film and television administration system.
Han Sanping is a legend of China’s film industry. As the leader of China’s film making“national team”, he has produced over 300 films, as well as more than 100 television series since the 1980s.
With the effort of Han and CFGC, China’s annual box office revenue jumped from less than 2 billion yuan to more than 20 billion yuan in 2012. A lot of China’s blockbusters owe their success to Han and his team.
Apart from being the head of CFGC, Han Sanping also serves as the President of Beijing Film Studio and the Chinese Children Film Studio, as well as Vice Managing Director of the Chinese Film Producer Association.
In his role as chairman of CFGC, Han has been referred to as the “messenger” between Hollywood and China.
