Human embryonic stem cells (hESC) are self-renewing and pluripotent cells that hold great promise drug discovery, regenerative medicine, and as a powerful tool for studying early human development and disease. The majority of hESC lines have been derived from cryoprescrvcd human embryos produced in surplus of clinical need during in vitro fertilization, however, hESC lines can be derived from discarded embryos.
