The concrete-filled fiber reinforced polymer (FRP)tube (CFFT) column system has exhibited superb structural and seismic performance through several pseudo-dynamic tests (Mirmiran and Shahawy 1995,1996; Mirmiran et al.1999,2000; Shao 2003; Shao &Mirmiran 2004,2005; and Zhu et al.,2006) and shaking table experiments (Zaghi et al.2012;Kavianipour & Saiidi 2012).Throughout the studies on the structural and seismic performance of the system,CFFTs exhibited several construction benefits,as well as many qualities which can facilitate accelerated bridge construction (ABC).Some of these benefits include: the reduced amounts of steel reinforcement used in CFFT design,the elimination of scaffolding and framework at construction sites,and the self-curing environment for the concrete core that is provided by the FRP tube.In addition,CFFT columns can be constructed as precast elements utilizing pipe-pin connections (Zaghi & Saiidi,2010) to further expedite construction.
