In 1870s,the Qing Empire government set off the Self-strengthening Movement.Not only did they spend a huge amount of money on buying steel turret battleships,cruisers and torpedo boats,but also selected students to study abroad in Europe,especially in Germany.In 1880,Li Jinxian andsome otherstudents were selected to study lessons on torpedo issues in L.Schwarzkopf factory in Germany.After finished work and returned to China,Li Jinxian served in the Beiyang Fleet.In 1890,he compiled and printed the book Yu Lei TuShuo,which was taken as one of the learning materials of the Beiyang Fleet torpedo camp.This paper intends to fully absorb the basis of results of previous studies about this book,in order to clarify some problems on the author and its versions in Ancient Texts Studies.I hope that this paper will add some contribution to the research.
