Capillary Electrochromatography,CEC,is a high performance microcolumn liquid phase separation technique with high selectivity and high efficiency. The realization of its full performance and wide applicability was largely held by the unavailability of robust capillary column technology. For microparticle-packed columns, the centre of the issue is the creation of high quality end frits. In this study,we used single perfusion particles as pre-fabricated frits with consistent frit length and permeability.Without sintering process, single particle frits can be lodged at any positions inside a capillary due to "key-stone" effect.Based on this novel fritting technology,we fabricated microparticle-packed capillary columns and evaluated their performance.Comprehensive data show excellent separation efficiency and resolution of such columns as well as good column-to-column reproducibility in terms of retention factor, peak efficiency and asymmetric factors. The results demonstrated effectiveness and stability of this new capillary column technology and also potential application in parallel use of such devices in high throughput analysis.
