Over four decades China’s spectacular achievement in its economic performance has enabled China to harness its economic power and to pursue its own agenda on global scale.Today China’s increasing economic and political influence has become pivotal issue to understand the future of global political landscape.Undoubtedly,China’s "One Belt One Road(OBOR)”Initiative is the latest and the most significant development to show China’s enlarging role in increasing its own global engagement capacity. This study methodically assesses Turkey’s rationales to get along with China’s OBOR Initiative and looks into Turkey-China relationship through changing conditions in which China’s OBOR Initiative leads. This thesis mainly deals with the inter-related two questions of how Turkey responses to China-led global transition process from post-cold war unipolar order to multipolar one,and why China’s OBOR Initiative affects Turkey’s considerations and response to China. This research utilizes middle power theory to comprehend motivations of Turkey to get closer to China under OBOR’s institutional umbrella. The middle power concept is functionally adopted to figure out Turkey’s changing foreign policy dynamics and Turkey’s possible role in the new international order between West and the revisionist powers. The nature of this study is largely explorative,so this thesis adopted inductive approach to propose a meaningful conclusion from a wide range of content analysis. The relevant data used in this research largely extracted from primary and secondary sources.Primary data has been collected through non-methodically designed interviews. This study fills the important gap which Chinese,Turkish and Western scholars have not yet touched upon regarding middle power concept to describe Turkey’s transforming foreign-policy dynamics.Another vital novelty of this research is to reveal the different perspectives of influential social and political groups in Turkey on OBOR engagement of their country.Among the explored reasons driving Turkey to get closer with China’s OBOR,while Nationalist and Conservative sentiments have more pragmatic reasons to get along with China such as benefiting from China’s economic power to balance Western effect, the left-wing political groups and statist elites are more critical against Turkey’s pro-Western stance and ideologically favors having good relations with China and other revisionist powers.Although the strained relations with Western countries and new international circumstances has brought different political fractions together to promote China’s increasing engagement in the geographical area nearby Turkey with the purpose of making Turkey non-aligned actor in the global system, the future of China-Turkey relations still have important constraints including OBOR’s institutional capacity, the Xinjiang issue, and lack of common understanding in a wide range of issues.
