Influenced by the traditional American naturalism, Hemingway is very good at describing the close relationship between man and nature. However, Hemingway is not bound by those traditional concepts but over nature. He interprets figures through the profound analysis of the characters in novels Life and death, thus reflecting its own image and personality. This article will take Hemingway’s “Francis Macombo short and happy life” as an example to analyze the different characters of McComb and Wilson in the text, and their connection with Ernest Hemingway, to discuss Hemingway’s self-image and patriarchal power Consciousness, so as to realize philosophically and psychologically further understanding of the hero and the author.
