According to a report in Nature, the Indian Council for Scientific and Industrial Research has asked its 40 research laboratories to adjust its deployment and cut certain projects to strengthen the remaining key projects after its budget expenditures have been drastically reduced . The magazine disclosed that the Eighth Plan proposed by the Indian Planning Commission (1992-97) approved only the appropriation of 171 million pounds to the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research and less than the amount requested by the Council (2.6 Half a billion pounds). Since its founding in 1950, the council has seen its budget increase year by year. However, in 1992 it was only 9 million pounds and fell to its lowest level ever. This is enough funding for each laboratory to maintain two or three projects
