Cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase (CYFP7A1) is a key enzyme in the conversion of cholesterol into cholic acid and plays an important role in maintaining the body’s cholesterol homeostasis. Cholesterol has an induction effect on CYfP7A1, and there are great differences among the species. Recently found that cholesterol does not alone determine the activity of the enzyme, dietary fatty acids affect the cholesterol combination, and ultimately determine the activity of the enzyme. These modulatory effects are mainly mediated by the regulation of CYP7A1 transcription at the transcriptional level by liver X receptor alpha (LXRα), retinol X receptor alpha (RXRα) and peroxisome proliferator activated receptor alpha (PPARα).
