The year of 2012 is the second year of the “12th Five-Year Plan”, also the second year of running after Chinese Media goes public. As a member unit of working group of “China Book International Initiative”, Chinese Media adheres to the principle of “Going Out” and “Introducing In”, strengthens connection and cooperation with publishers in U.S.A, Britain, France, Japan, Republic of Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong and Taiwan of China through book fair platform in domestic and abroad characterized by copyright trade, and implements external promotion by means of copyright trading, entities output, Co-publishing, print service, international strategy cooperation.
Excellent Export Achievement
In 2012, there were 159 copyrights export (increases 20% compared to127 in 2011) of Jiang Xi Publishing Group Company and Chinese Media, among them, 122 were exported to areas excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, 6 were published through cooperation, increasing by 19% compared to104 in 2011. There were 31 copyrights exported to Hong Kong and Taiwan The value of books entities output and sales fixed price is about RMB 100,000, value of trade volume for print external process service is about RMB 40,000,000. Youth inspirational online game Magic Track developed by 21st Century Publishing House goes online in December, 2012, the initial royalty for copyright output reaches $500,000.
The 21st Century Publishing House to which Chinese Media is subordinate obtained “2012 Copyright Gold Award(China) of WIPO——Promotion and Application Award” elected by State Copyright Bureau and WIPO, and is the only press obtaining this award in China. Baby Labyrinth(5 volumes) and Driving—Vehicles Picture Book Series (7 volumes) published by 21st Century Publishing House list in excellent book awards of 11th export and import edition.
There were 3 projects subsidized by “China Book International Initiative” for Jiang Xi Publishing Group Company in 2012 : Wicket exported to French and Japan, color cartoon edition Romance of the Three Kingdoms(20 volumes). All the projects are carrying out and relevant foreign language versions are under translating.

1. Formulate Definite Plan to Publish Books with Best Quality
At the beginning of the year, directors of 6 publishing houses as members of books external promotion leading group of Jiang Xi Publishing Group Company signed the letters of responsibility of object management with respect to “six projects”,.putting books promotion into annual performance evaluation goal. In recent years, publishing units under Chinese Media have paid more attention to development of export-oriented topic, listing export-oriented publication as strategy development planning of publishing house, enriching types of overseas export and product lines, making valuable books with best quality. Two kinds of books of Meng Man tells Sui Dynasty published by Jiang Xi People Press were exported to U.S Times Chinese Press; Hua Xia Series published by Jiang Xi Education Press was exported to North America; Internal Medicine Fascicule and Orthopedic Surgery under Illustrated Series of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Therapy published by Jiang Xi Science and Technology press were exported to Prunus Press USA; eight kinds of books from Xiao Wen Series published by 21st century Publishing House were exported to Kavin & Robin Books Ltd in Canada; War Wisdom of Sun Tzu as one of Chinese Culture Series published by Baihuazhou Literature and Art press were exported to Spain; electronic copyright of 9 books including Turkish Travel Notes, Peru Travel Notes, Mexico Travel Notes published by Jiang Xi Fine Arts Publishing House were exported to U.S.A; 8 kinds of books from I Am the Little CEO Series published by Jiang Xi University Press were exported to Vietnam Ming Long Culture Co., Ltd. 2. In the 2012 Beijing International Book Fair, Jiang Xi publishing Group Company and Chinese Media organized about 10 significant activities: Jiang Xi People Press signs strategic cooperation agreement with U.S.A Company of Times Chinese press, to promote “Copyright Output to Overseas Countries and Regions” of Chinese books through platform of U.S.A Company of Times Chinese Press; Jiang Xi Education Press jointly held forum with China Daily under the topic of “Discourse China: Mode of Discourse of China Development Under Globalization——Taking Interpretation of ‘the 12th Five-year Plan’ as Example”; Jiang Xi Science and Technology Press held signing ceremony of copyright output of several books including Ward off Disease and Take Good Care of Yourself for Health) with Taiwan Shinchosha Cultural Enterprise Co., Ltd; the 21st Century Publishing House held “Share Reading Cross-border --Annual Achievement Exhibition of Macmillan Century Children Book” with Macmillan Century Consulting Services co., Ltd, and held the 3rd International copyright promotion conference for the promotion of excellent original juvenile books such as Pipilu Drawing Library, Xiao Wen and Treasure Hunting in Great China; Baihuazhou Literature and Art Press held signing ceremony of copyright output of War Wisdom of Sun Tzu with Spain Teófilo·Comunicación Press; Jiang Xi Fine Arts Press signed cooperation agreement with Singapore Eonboo Publishing for jointly publishing of King Arthur’s Legacy--Armour of Light.
During 2012 London Book Fair with China being the main guest of honor, delegation of Jiang Xi Publishing House take full advantage of this opportunity to attend kinds of activities and communicate with international partners to promote our Jiang Xi Publishing and Chinese Media for international cooperation. The first board meeting of Beijing Macmillan Century Consulting Services co., Ltd (a joint venture company invested by 21st century Publishing House and Macmillan Publishers Limited) summarized progress in organization operating, product manufacturing, financial audit and marketing promotion, discussed and passed the detailed plan of product development in the next half year of 2012. Chinese and Macmillan can share resources through Macmillan Century Consulting Services co., Ltd, and bring a amounts of books with best quality for Chinese children. The purpose of “importing foreign books” is for better “Copyright Output to Overseas Countries and Regions”. Chinese Media may bring more original products to the world through global publishing network of Macmillan. They also planned to extend their cooperative field from children’s books to social sciences and humanity culture and science technology to update China’s publishing external exchange cooperation. On 2012 London Book Fair and Frankfurt International Book Fair, 21st century Publishing House set booth to show original books in international displaying area. On Frankfurt International Book Fair, it set up exhibition hall in No. 3 of Kids exhibition hall next to international children publishing houses, attracted many foreign publishing houses to negotiate about copyright.
(2) English magazine China Book International and website of “China Book International” are two important platforms to promote Chinese books to overseas. Jiang Xi Publishing Group Company and Chinese Media plan to promote export-oriented publications with the help of them through international and domestic book fair platform and series culture activities. Through the two platforms, Jiang Xi Publishing Group Company and Chinese Media promoted more than 100 books though book review, new book recommendation, author introduction and advertisements inserts during 2012.
4. Innovating Promotion Method through Multiaspect Plan
(1) From Import and Original to Overseas Copyright Output
“My First Cartoon Book of Great China Treasure Hunting” series published by 21st Century Publishing House realized inverted output by learning the creative feature of “Treasure Hunt” cartoon imported from Republic of Korea. “Color Crow” book brand also realized new publishing mode of importing, learning, original creating to exporting.
(2) To Achieve Overseas Export through Interaction of Brand Book and Magazine
Crazy English published by Jiang Xi Education Press is an excellent English periodical in China. It has been issued in Singapore and Hong Kong since 2007 with a circulation of 200 volumes per month. The press plans to publish “Crazy English” book series relying on the brand and marketing channel of Crazy English and strives for the expansion of sales scope in non-English-speaking countries such as Vietnam and Thailand in “12th Five-Year Plan”.
(3) To Apply Digital Science and Technology for Overseas Export
In recent years, there has been rising tendency of electronic copyright output. In 2012, there were 9 and 5 electronic copyrights exported to U.S.A and Japan respectively from Jiang Xi Publishing Group Company and Chinese Media. Youth inspirational online game Magic Track developed by 21st Century Publishing House will be online recently. The game is based on Xiaoling Dingdang’s Little Magic Fairy published by 21st Century Publishing House, which is a work wining the “Five One Project” award. The internet issuers from Brazil and Argentina have purchased the authorization of this game with fees of U.S. $500,000. Arrange Plan to Expand External Promotion
Jiang Xi Publishing Group Company will continue to pay attention to external promotion due to lack of international brand with cultural influence. As a listed company, it has little capital strength applied in international cooperative external promotion. The future working plan of Jiang Xi publishing Group Company is as follows:
1. Carry out annual plan system of publishing project. It will organize and implement a series of external promotion selected topics and bring out some excellent books as key marketing and Copyright output books in international book fairs.
2. Hold foreign experts sessions on related topic often. It shall change the annual foreign experts forum into a daily activity. Member units and publishing houses will be invited to attend it for targeted aims.
3. Organize and set up annual external publicity plan for elected topics in advance. “Two Projects” is the key of promotion works now. Jiang Xi Publishing Group Company plans to submit relevant selected topics for “Two Projects” in advance to issue relevant units for their integrated planning and puts forward definite requirements for sub-companies.
4. Cultivate translation talent team to serve the promotion. Cultivating of translators team should be paid attention from the level of national language competence and cultural soft power construction. It is a fact that the lack of interpreters and translators with high quality and profession becomes the bottleneck restricting Chinese culture’s promotion in overseas due to long time of translators’ training cycle.
