Researchers monitoring heart transplant children report that common graft virus infections can worsen the prognosis in these patients. Test results show that these viruses do not enter the body with the donor’s organs, but are infected after the transplant. The results of studies conducted in adults and children who received donor heart or lung transplantation implicated immune rejection and other problems when the viral infection migrated to some donor organ. Jeffrey A Towbin, Baylor Medical University, Houston, USA, and colleagues tracked the development of 149 heart transplant recipients under the age of 18 years. In an average period of more than 4 years
