The British Nature Publishing Group announced to set up the editorial department in Shanghai China on the 28th December. The relevant responsible personnel expressed: the group hopes to provide better services for Chinese scientific research personnel considering the rising influence of Chinese scientific researches.
The executive chief editor Ed Gerstner and other editorial staff of Nature Communications, a publication of Nature Publishing Group, have moved to Shanghai from London. "It is an exciting moment for Chinese science. I have had the honor to visit a series of Chinese laboratories and scientific research institutions, whose development speed and research quality is impressive, over the past two years", said Ed Gerstner. He also indicated that the editorial department in Shanghai will make efforts to introduce the Chinese scientific research achievements to the whole world through Nature Communications and other publications of Nature Publishing Group.
Besides owning Nature, the global top flagship publication, Nature Publishing Group has founded other academic publications as well. Thereinto, Nature Communications is an interdisciplinary online academic journal founded in 2010, and has developed to an important global comprehensive scientific journal in less than 3 years.
Nature Publishing Group is subordinate to Macmillan Publishers. Liu Jun, an official of the group, expressed that he was very pleased for the setting up of editorial department in Shanghai, the department will continue to expand in the next few months and provide services to the rapid development of science.
Nature Publishing Index 2011 shows that the proportion of papers published by Chinese researchers in the world's most influential papers keeps growing, from 1.85% (with 127 most influential papers in the 6874 papers in total) in 2001 to 11.3% (with 1158 most influential papers in the 10238 papers in total) in 2011, ranked at the fourth place around the world.
