The operating revenue, total profit and total assets of CIPG increased to RMB1.3 billion, RMB59.39 million and RMB2.2 billion in 2012 from the RMB702 million, RMB6.325 million and RMB1.156 billion in 2007, with a stunning growth of 85%, 939% and 190% respectively.

China International Publishing Group (CIPG), formerly known as International Press Bureau of Press General Administration of the Central People's Government founded in October 1949, is a news publishing agency with a mission to introduce the CCP and China to foreign countries through books, magazines and websites. CIPG has over 21overseas branches located in the United States, Britain, French, Germany, Belgium, Russia, Egypt, South Africa, Mexico, Peru, Japan and Hong Kong, constituting a business pattern composed of translation, publishing, printing, distribution, internet and multimedia business, theoretical research, etc.
Dedicating to international communications for over 60 years, CIPG has formed a business pattern dominated by seven sectors, including book publishing, periodic reporting, internet communication, theoretical research, translation, international distribution and overseas business.
Book publishing: over ten domestic and overseas press houses under CIPG publish 60 million books of 4,000 book titles in 43 languages annually. It ranks the first in national books copyright exports and over 80% of its books for international book exhibitions are foreign books.
Periodic reporting: CIPG has edited and published more than 50 types of printed and digital periodicals in nearly 20 languages, of which the printed periodicals are published in 10 languages of Chinese, English, France, Russian, Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, Korean and Tibetan. The national periodicals like Beijing Review, China Today, China Pictorial, People's China and China Report have served as important channels for overseas readers to learn about China. Internet communication: China’s key press website www.china.org.cn releases information of 11 language versions in 10 languages of Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish, Arabic, German, Japanese, Korean and Esperanto annually. The website has been visited by people from over 200 countries and regions. There are more than 30 websites for international communication under CIPG, forming a distinctive multilingual web portfolio.
Theoretical research: the Center for International Communication Studies under CIPG is a national authoritative institute engaging in the theoretical research on international communication theories, with competitive advantages in analysis, study and judgment of overseas China-related public opinion, evaluation on foreign publicity effects audience investigation, etc. It compiles over 20 kinds of study products including Overseas China-Related Public Opinion annually, and it also organizes national seminars like the international communication theory seminar and academic exchange activities.
Translation: CIPG has over 400 foreign language translators specializing in translation of 14 languages including Chinese, English, France, Russian, Spanish, Arabic, German, Japan and Korean. CIPG administers the Translators Association of China and All-China Esperanto League; it is the home of experts and scholars in translation, contributing to the development of the translation profession in China. In addition, it was entrusted to organize, implement and administer the China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI). There are about 50 thousand people applying for this exam every year.
