Attendant: Next please. Good morning!
Stephanie: Hi. Good morning!
Attendant: Where are you flying to today?
Stephanie: Back to China.
Attendant: Okay. I just need your ticket and your passport.
Stephanie: Sure. Here you are.
Attendant: Okay Stephanie, we actually had a small computer error, which caused us to ①double book your seat. However, ②I’ve just fixed that up and we would like to upgrade you to first class, ③free of charge.
Stephanie: Wow, Okay. Great!
Attendant: And ④what luggage are you checking in today?
Stephanie: I’ll check this one, thanks. ⑤I’ll take this one on board with me.
Attendant: ⑥Just pop it up here. Yes, that’s great. Now, you have a two-hour wait in Singapore and then the connecting flight will take you on to Shanghai.
Stephanie: Can you please tell me the departure and arrival times of those flights?
Attendant: New York to Singapore: departs at 11:30AM, arrives at 11:30PM the same day. Singapore to Shanghai: departs 1:30AM arrives 6:30AM. It’s a long trip.
Stephanie: Yes. I hope I can get some sleep on the plane. I’ll need a few days to recover once I get back.
Attendant: You sure will. Okay, I’m just printing your boarding pass now. There you go. You are in seat 2B.
Stephanie: Great. Thanks for your help. Oh, which gate is that from?
Attendant: It’s A23. ⑦Head down to your left. Have a safe flight.

① double book 重复订位
double book: reserve two people or groups for one availability when making a reservation, as on an airplane or restaurant（在预订时把一个空间/空位留给两个人或两个组，如飞机、餐厅等）. 例如：
Airlines usually double book their seats at low season.
航空公司通常在淡季时重复订位。
② I’ve just fixed that up. 我已经纠正了。
fix sth. up: do work that is necessary in order to repair sth. which does not work properly（把出错的事情纠正过来）. 例如：
Just leave the scanner here. I’ll fix it up this afternoon.
把扫描仪放这儿吧，我下午就修理它。
③ free of charge 免费
free of charge: (sth.) does not cost anything（免费）. 例如：
If you buy three CDs, you can get one free of charge.
如果你买三张CD，我们会免费再送你一张。
④ What luggage are you checking in today? 您今天有行李要托运吗？
check in luggage (at airport): give your luggage to the airline so it can be taken on to your plane （把行李托运）. 例如：
We need to check in four pieces of luggage.

check in 在不同的语境里，意思是有差别的，check in 常见的意思还有登记，办理登机手续，登记归还（东西）等。
⑤ I’ll take this one on board with me. 这一件我想随身携带。
take sth. on board: take sth. with you when getting on an airplane or on a ship（把某物随身携带上飞机或船）. 例如：
The box is too big. You can’t take it on board.
盒子太大了，你没法随身携带。
⑥ Just pop it up here. 放在这儿就好了。
pop: put sth. somewhere quickly, British English（快速把东西放某处，英国英语）. 例如：
You can pop them down here next time.
你下次可以把东西放在这里。
⑦ Head down to your left. 朝您的左边走。
head (down): go a certain direction（朝特定方向），can be “head back,” “head along,” etc.（也可说head back、head along）. 例如：
Head down to the aisle and you can see the sign.
