数学理论的重大突破,常起源于立意深邃的猜想.例如著名的费马猜想就是促进数论发展的基源.数学猜想就是人们研究数学问题的一种策略,它是指根据某些已知的事实、材料和数学知识,以已有的数学理论和方法为指导,对未知的量及其关系所做的一种预测性的推断.《义务教育数学课程标准》(2011)明确指出:“通过义务教育阶段的数学学习,学生经历观察、实验、猜想、证明等数学活动过程,发展合情推理能力和初步的演绎推理能力,能有条理地、清晰地阐述自己的观点.”可见新课标已经明确把培养学生的数学猜想能力作为一个培养目标.
