在当今中国传媒市场竞争日益激烈的情况下,各类媒体都想用大信息量来抢占市场份额。而地市报要办出特色,必须扬长避短,经营好本地新闻。三亚是一座以旅游为主的地级市,常驻人口50万,但游客每年都在400多万,所以《三亚晨报》的读者群非常广泛,外地游客阅读《三亚晨报》主要以当地新闻为主,这为经营好本地新闻加重了筹码。同时本地读者也更注重本地新闻。《三亚晨报》2003年扩至8个版,但仍坚持以经营地方新闻为主,靠地方新闻吸引读者眼球。
