The pathogenesis of primary retinitis pigmentosa (RP) may be related to the functional decline of the retina against free radical damage. Glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) is an important free radical scavenger in the body. Selenium is a real center of activity. Selenium-induced damage and GSH-PX activity was positively correlated.
