In 2012, Southern Publishing & Media Co., Ltd. had a total of 170 contracted copyright export programs (excluding those programs to Kong Hong, Macau and Taiwan), a 70% increase over last year. Theses copyrights were mainly exported to countries including America, Canada, UK, Germany, and Italy, accounting for 52%. That has well reflected the company’s development strategy, “Copyright Export”, to expand the western mainstream publishing market.
Particularly, it is a highlight that Southern Publishing & Media Co., Ltd. has exported abroad a lot of books on the Reform and Opening-up, and the political, economical, and cultural development of the contemporary China. The 60-year Development of New China’s Constitution, exported to America, elaborates the 60-year evolution of the constitution system since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, and demonstrates the superiority of the socialist system and the importance of CPC’s leadership. The China in Mobility, whose German and Italian editions were bought by foreign tradesmen in the London Book Fair in 2012, panoramically records the joys and sorrows of the migrants in China. A series of books such as the Smart Manufacturing exported to America and the Chinese-style Enterprise Crisis Management exported to Canada reveal the way of modern Chinese enterprises to success from the perspective of China’s economic transformation.
Southern Publishing & Media Co., Ltd. has actively established strategic cooperation on products, copyrights, capital and other aspects with western mainstream media enterprises. In 2012, Southern Publishing & Media Co., Ltd. signed the strategic agreement with the Hungarian DUNA International Publishing Group for the deep cooperation on copyright business, investment in book programs and entities, and other aspects. Thus, Southern Publishing & Media Co., Ltd. has become the first Chinese publishing group to develop the comprehensive strategic cooperation with a Hungarian publishing institution. Meanwhile, Southern Publishing & Media Co., Ltd signed the cooperation agreement with the Italian Gambero Rosso Holding S.p.a on the detailed programs such as the magazine, Wine, and educational TV channels, and also established partnership with the Italian Class Editori Publishing & Media Group, German Springer Press, American Publish on Demand Global and other foreign large professional publishing institutions.
In recent years, the Chinese joint-stock companies have cooperated with the foreign publishing institutions, especially those in the western mainstream countries. Southern Publishing & Media Co., Ltd. is engaged in seeking diversified cooperation with the international publishing giants, and the company also begins to emphasize the contacts and partnership with the foreign professional publishing presses. These professional presses are often small, but they have unique advantages and industry statuses in their own fields and can stand firm and develop quite well in the fiercely competitive western book market. The cooperation with the professional presses can create the broad prospective. If the specific books are continuously provided for these professional presses, there will be a series or a batch, rather than a kind, of exportable products, and even more potential cooperation on books with topics derived from one specific theme.
