As a stage in the history of the development of novels, in the short period of 72 years, modern novels have completed the transition from ancient novels to modern novels. This article begins with the analysis of the concept of “modern novel”, and then examines the concrete changes of the elements of creation, communication, theory, readers and official cultural policy of the development system of fiction in this period. The original novel system has been maintained for about four hundred years since the end of the Ming Dynasty. The invasion by the powers, the social turmoil, the drastic changes of concepts and the introduction of new technological means have broken its balance and at the same time have made the various elements of the composition system go through the process of adapting to the development of the times Change, finally formed a new balance of the novel system. In the process of rebuilding the novel system, the creation shows a series of phenomena such as close political relations, numerous works and mediocre works, a large number of mediocre compositions, and the modern novel completing the historical mission of transition in a gradual way.
