Thomas Aquinas, a master of medieval scholasticism, also gave his thoughts on the economic subjects. Aquinas believes that trade among businessmen should be free, voluntary and fair and mutually beneficial. Business contacts should be based on the common interest of both parties and exchanged at fair prices, basically denying usury. He strives to reconcile the contradictions between Christian theology and the growing economic activity by proposing unique and highly realistic ideas about the role of merchants, fair prices, the law, and the pursuit of common well-being.
