I. Introduction
The report is based on an achievement test paper taken by 11 students in senior 3 in our school as a mock examination. The purpose of the test is to check whether the students have reached the level of entering the university majoring in the sports. The students who took the test must finish the test in 90 minutes. All the papers are marked by the English teachers in senior teaching group.
II. Analysis of the Paper;
On the whole, the paper covers two types of tests---objective items and subjective items, of which objective items cover 120 marks and subjective items cover 30 marks.
1.The Structure And Content of the Paper
The paper is designed to select the athletes, so on the whole it is easier then the university entrance exam. This paper is made up of five parts: multiple choices, cloze, reading comprehension, vocabulary test and writing. As I mentioned above it is the university entrance exam, however, it is very different from that formal test.
2 . Evaluation on the paper
1) Facility value
From the examples below, we can find out that the facility value of most items is lower than the formal test to university. And the students can gain the scores only knowing the basic knowledge. Secondly, the paper has fewer tests on the integrative competence, which shows that these items’ difficulty is moderate. So we can say that on the whole the paper is easy for the students to do. The final scores also show the result of the test.
2) Discrimination
According to the test paper, except the reading comprehension and writing, I counted there are 8 items for checking the verbs, and 6 items for checking nouns, as well as 10 items for the sentences’ structures including the tenses. Finally, the rest for some adjectives, pronouns and so on.;Although those items are checking the same content, but they have several forms and ways.
3) Reliability
The exam was held as a mock exam in our school, so the process is strictly same as the formal admission exam. And during the exam, the students were asked to treat it as the formal one, so they all took it seriously. After the exam, our school arranged all the English teachers to judge the papers, so the subjectivity was reduced to the least. Therefore, the result of the test is reliable.
III.Conclusion
The paper is a little easy for the students to do, but its discrimination, validity and reliability are all proper. So it’s a good test paper.
