Based on nearly one hundred years of observation data, the SST variation in the equatorial Indian Ocean is analyzed, and the dipole-type oscillation does exist. This dipole-type oscillation was the strongest in September-November and the weakest in January-April; it also showed interannual and interdecadal variations. The dipole’s orthophase (SSTWE) is generally stronger than its negative counterpart (SSTWSW). Although in a very few years the dip in the equatorial Indian Ocean seems to be independent of the Pacific El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), the equatorial Indian Ocean dipole and the equatorial Pacific dip dipole (similar to the anti-ENSO mode ) Have a very negative correlation. The main physical processes that connect them are mainly anomalies of the Walker circulation in the equatorial atmosphere.
